Easter Bunny Origins: The Not-So-Child Friendly Truth

When someone greets you a 'Happy Easter', you always think of bunnies. There are lots of eggs and bright colors. Some people say it is related to the Christian religion, but you certainly have not seen rabbits as a regular fixture in church. So you wonder, what is it about this popular bunny and particularly the Easter Bunny Costumes so loved by children? Very much like the Santa of winter, the Easter Bunny of spring is well-known for being this fluffy guy who varies in different light-shaded colors, carrying a cute basket with what seems like colorful - and what is rumored to be, chocolate eggs, to give to children before Easter. So what is the deal with this furry friend? Is it really just interested in giving out sweets and cavities to unsuspecting children? Yes and no. It may be all fun and games for children, but this is not your average Disney Thumper story.

Easter Bunny Babies Everywhere

Well, here is a big clue. Have you ever kept two rabbits of the opposite sex as a pet in one cage or box? Aside from the stink and the messy cage, you will notice that if they are not munching on their daily blessing of food, they are doing what we would like to call the horizontal mambo. Exactly. Though the Bunny does not represent sex per se, it represents the symbol of fertility. Babies, babies, babies! Rabbits are quite exceptional regarding their devotion to procreation. It is not just the fact that they can spew a very large litter of baby rabbits, but it is that these little buck-toothed things can have babies right after they have given birth! Apparently, once they pop, they can't stop! So now you know that it is not always about the birds and the bees.

So if ever you decide to show up at a costume party as this particular bunny, whose origins seems to be way more... sizzling than good old Bugs, try to keep it PG-13 and try not to act out your role too much. But you can take your bunny ears and take your strides with pride because without you? This holiday would not be as interesting as it is.

A cool BoogieBunny
